With your head
in the clouds
Rooftop bar – LuminAirJust imagine, your head in the clouds! And then literally. In the new rooftop bar LuminAir at Double Tree by Hilton Amsterdam Central Station this becomes a reality. Gielissen ensured the complete turnkey execution of the project with a unique design that constantly changes its appearance.
A reflection of the sky
as a ceiling
How do you develop a rooftop bar with a continuously changing appearance? Design agency Kongs came up with an innovative concept for the former Skylounge at DoubleTree by Hilton in Amsterdam. The ceiling of the rooftop bar reflects the city skies. Every time, it is different, depending on the weather, the light and the clouds. The design made high demands of the materials, lighting and finish. Another challenge...the grand opening was planned for six months from instruction!

Seamless
cooperation
As main contractor, Gielissen coordinated the entire process. With King Kongs and Turner & Townsend (on behalf of the customer) a strong construction team was formed. We involved subcontractors and suppliers from the very beginning, facilitating a quick and flexible response to the challenges that we encountered along the way. A really dynamic exchange of ideas ensued through close consultation between the interior architect, the customer and Gielissen.

From pixels
to perfection
The ceiling comprises cloud-like installations that continuously change color and intensity. With more than 2500 feet of pixel led lines that change color every 4 inches, the mood in the room is continually recreated. An extensive test process with mockups ensured that every detail met the intended appearance perfectly. The ‘clouds’ continually change in step with the incidental light and reflections of the light from above. The tiles on the bar maximize the exterior light in the space, making LuminAir a living part of the city of Amsterdam.

LuminAir as an eye-catcher
for Amsterdam
Within five weeks of opening, LuminAir had become the number one bar in Amsterdam on Tripadvisor. The experience, the finish and the unique interplay with the sky above make this rooftop bar a must-visit spot. A unique sky bar where you literally sit with your head in the clouds, absorbing ‘the mood from the sky above’.
